Defusing Anger Effectively

Filed under: Uncategorized — David Seltzer @ 8:33 am

One of the most destructive forces in a person’s life is anger that is out of balance and overly intense. Such anger has the power to wreak havoc in all our relationships, including with our spouse, our children, our friends and our work colleagues.

Being involved in a difficult situation or relationship and yet maintaining an inner calm, with feelings of peace and security, allows a person to flow through life with joy and happiness, building positive feelings within himself that radiates to all other individuals with whom he relates each day.

Preparation for the Healing Journey

Filed under: The Healing Model — Tags: , — David Seltzer @ 11:21 am

The Chafetz Chaim, a great Talmudic sage and one of the most prolific writers of the past century, wrote dozens of books geared to helping the Jewish people deal successfully with the spiritual issues of their troubled times. His books, written in a clear and interesting style, have been a source of inspiration to thousands of Jews the world over, and they remain so to this day.

Once a non-Jewish admirer of the Chafetz Chaim asked him, “Why don’t you use your tremendous talent to write novels? There’s no question that your works would be best-sellers, and you would make a fortune!”

In response, the Chafetz Chaim told him the following parable.

The Tools of Healing

Filed under: The Tools of Healing — Tags: — David Seltzer @ 9:33 am

To experience a session in Healing Pathways – whether it is facilitated by a practitioner or whether an individual works with it himself – is to journey into one’s own inner world. It is a voyage to understand what we truly want and what goals will lead us toward fulfillment and personal satisfaction; it is a excursion from a land of blockages, in which we feel hampered and closed in, unable to actualize ourselves, to a land of freedom, in which we experiences positive self-direction and self-assurance. These positive traits allow us to move into a new reality, one that enables us to take full advantage of all our innate talents and abilities, while still maintaining an intimate awareness of our intrinsic essential self.

The Emotional Spectrum Matrix

Filed under: The Tools of Healing,Uncategorized — Tags: , — David Seltzer @ 10:11 am

The emotional nature of a human being is extremely deep, often infinitely so. It is not uncommon for someone to become overwhelmed when he experiences the full range of his feelings that a negative situation or trauma elicits. This often happens when one is angry.

Imagine an empty glass on a table. Someone comes and fills the glass half-full with water. A little while later, someone else enters the room and fills the glass to the brim. If a third person comes along and adds more water, then the water will simply overflow, since there is no room left in the glass.

Take a look at a typical day for a man named George: He gets up in the morning bursting with vigor and full of happy expectations. When he enters the kitchen to eat breakfast, his wife is busy with the baby and forgets to say good morning. He feels slightly put out, but, “No big deal; that’s life,” he tells himself, and he puts it out of his mind. He may think he just forgot about it, but in reality, that subtle insult is stored in some inner niche, filling up his emotional “glass” to a certain degree.

The 72 Facets of Human Personality

Filed under: The Healing Model — Tags: — Yael @ 12:36 pm

The second level of the Healing Pathways model is the human personality. The human personality is varied and richly complex; it includes 72 individual traits (see Kuntres Shivim Kochot Ha’Adam LehaGra, by Rav Yaakov Mordechai Greenwald). These 72 traits fall within ten energetic categories:

1. Potential

2. Elemental

3. Temperaments

4. Centering

5. Developmental

6. Sensory

7. Emotional

8. Integrative

9. Focusing

10. Intellectual

These traits represent the various abilities and talents God has given man as the means through which to connect with and actualize his potential. They allow him to process stimuli from the environment to strengthen and enhance his essential self, and they enable him to project his individual perceptions out to the world, allowing him to influence his environment in positive ways and to achieve his unique purpose in life.

Connecting to Your Essential Intrinsic Self

Filed under: The Healing Perception — Tags: — David Seltzer @ 9:26 am

There is an old story about how the Allies decided to take over a certain tropical island as a base after World War II. They brought in three officers to manage the operation – a German, an American and a Japanese. Supervision over day-to-day operations was assigned to the German, human resources to the American, and supplies to the Japanese. For several months the three officers were left to run the base on their own. Then one day a general came by to check the status of the operations. He posted a message to the effect that he wished to speak with all three officers on the day of his arrival.

At the meeting he asked the German for a rundown of the daily schedule. With typical German efficiency, the officer immediately produced a file with printed documentation for the entire time period. The general then asked the American about human resources, and the American presented him with a flowchart of goals and accomplishments for all workers on the island.

The general was fully satisfied with their efficiency and analyses of the situation. He then looked around for the Japanese officer, who was nowhere to be found. Puzzled, the general questioned the others: “So where’s that Japanese chap?”

Somewhat flustered, they replied, “We don’t really know … we haven’t seen him since the first day of the assignment.”

For lack of a better option, they offered to take the general on a grand tour of the island. Suddenly, as they entered a dense forest, the Japanese officer jumped out at them. Waving his hands vigorously, he smiled and shouted to the general, “Supplise!

In general, life is full of surprises. The biggest surprise by far is that life’s ability to surprise us is what supplies us with the capacity to hope and the will to move forward.

Knowing How to Receive

Filed under: Healing with Color — Tags: , , — David Seltzer @ 11:23 am

The Torah states, “I am black and beautiful” (Songs of Songs 1:5). Black is one of the most majestic of colors. It portrays simplicity while radiating depth. It bespeaks inner beauty while presenting an aura of mystery and suspense. Black is unique in that, whereas it absorbs all colors and therefore has the positive energy of all the colors, essentially it represents the absence of color. For black represents pure negation, the ability to set oneself aside and to be able to receive from others without feeling degraded.

As such, black is the pathway to true acceptance. The highest level of connection to which a human being can aspire is the level of true acceptance. Moses was the greatest of all prophets because he was God’s faithful servant. His sole desire was to do the will of God. The ability to accept what life sends our way, without feeling angry, depressed or out of balance, is the sign of true spiritual perfection. The ability to accept our family members and friends just as they are, without being judgmental or negative, without focusing on their faults, is the source of truly harmonious relationships, as Solomon, wisest of all men, wrote, “Just as water reflects the face one shows it, so too one’s heart reflects the feelings of one’s friend” (Proverbs 27:19). The ability to accept ourselves, to be totally open to ourselves and to the good within us, to flow with all our talents and capabilities while remaining responsible, refreshed and aware of our infinite potential, is the zenith of personal self-development.

Connecting to Balanced Giving

Filed under: Healing with Color — Tags: , , — David Seltzer @ 11:13 am

Perhaps one of the most important states an individual can achieve is one in which he or she is able to be stable, consistent and totally focused in all area of life and learning experiences. The need for focus and clarity is universal, whether it be for a child who needs to stay focused in class, for someone praying before his Creator, who wishes to truly express himself, or for a speaker who wants to present his message with clarity. When we are focused we can be totally present, with all our talents and abilities, utilizing them to the utmost to create fulfillment and prosperity. When we are focused on the good, both in life and in others, we can accept whatever negativity comes our way without losing our inner balance, thereby enjoying an energetic state of inner peace and quiet. We can give to others without fear that we will lose out or that others will take advantage of us. And we can risk success without undue fear.

The way to achieve focus and reliability is to connect to earth-energy. Every day we pray to G-d, “May my soul be like earth before you!” The earth is a total giver, with no hidden agendas. Though people plow her, mine her, pollute her and step on her without a second thought, the earth continues to provide her inhabitants with fruits and grains, metals and woods, places to live and to do business. The earth is totally humble, yet it is through the earth that God dispenses all the good that man enjoys.

The color brown is ideal for connecting to balanced earth-energy. Brown is warm, deep, rich and inviting. Connecting to brown allows us to become truly humble and leads us to true forgiveness – of ourselves and of others – allowing us to let go of negative episodes from our past without constant recrimination, and to move on and flow with harmony to enjoy all the good that God bestows on us constantly.

The following visualization is designed to help you create balance and focus in your life.

Creating a Balanced Relationship With Possessions

Filed under: Healing with Color — Tags: , , — David Seltzer @ 10:15 am

Possessions are an extremely important part of our lives; in fact, we spend the greater part of our lives trying to obtain them. We run after money in order to have food, clothing, housing, transportation and anything else we need. If we are spiritually oriented, we want to pursue the study of Torah and fulfillment of the commandments, and we want to balance our relationships with others. We seek a spouse, children and a fine reputation. Even the Talmud teaches that a beautiful wife, a beautiful home and beautiful possessions expand the consciousness of man (Brachot 57b).

God gives us possessions to help us actualize ourselves and to fulfill our mission in life. We have both physical possessions (such as a house and car) and spiritual possessions (the Torah we have studied and integrated within ourselves); we have emotional possessions (our openness to feel the next person), cognitive possessions (our mental ability to absorb concepts) and potential possessions (our ability to tune into and draw from our infinite positive potential).

Creating a Positive Self-Image

Filed under: Healing with Color — Tags: , , — David Seltzer @ 8:42 am

A positive perception of ourselves, our family members and every individual we encounter throughout our lives is one of the most important perspectives we need to obtain. We are taught that the way we perceive others is also the way they will perceive us. If we cannot see the good in ourselves, there is no question that we won’t see the good in others. The Torah’s injunction to love your friend as you love yourself (Leviticus 19:18) implies that the extent to which you love and appreciate yourself is the extent to which you are able to love your friend.

A positive self-perception lets us enjoy the position life hands us without getting hung up on what’s happening with our neighbor. With positive self-perception we can appreciate what we have achieved in life, so we can do the best we can and be grateful for every small kindness we receive from others. The color pink is ideal for helping us create a positive self-image. Pink is gentle, inculcating in us positive feelings of self-encouragement and satisfaction. It helps us stay healthy and in the pink by enabling us to maintain a positive perspective that attunes us to the sweetness of life.

The following visualization is designed to help you create a positive self-image.
